📍 Åland Islands are an autonomous and demilitarized region of Finland located in the Baltic Sea, between mainland Finland and Sweden. The archipelago consists of thousands of islands and skerries, with no land borders, and is situated at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia.
Åland’s geography is defined by a vast island landscape of rocky shores, low-lying terrain, and forested areas spread across more than 6,700 islands, though only a small number are inhabited. The total land area is about 1,580 square kilometers (610 square miles), while the surrounding sea dominates the region. The islands feature a mix of coastal cliffs, sheltered bays, and fertile patches of land used for agriculture. Its maritime setting, mild Baltic climate, and strategic position between Finland and Sweden have shaped its culture, economy, and importance in regional shipping and trade.
