Wider Context

Saint Helena is a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean characterized by rugged volcanic terrain, steep cliffs, and lush valleys surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.

📍 Saint Helena is a remote volcanic island located in the South Atlantic Ocean, roughly midway between South America and Africa. It is part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, and has no land borders, being surrounded entirely by the Atlantic Ocean.
Saint Helena’s geography is defined by rugged volcanic terrain with steep cliffs rising sharply from the sea and a more elevated interior. The island covers about 122 square kilometers (47 square miles) and features a mix of arid coastal areas and a greener, more temperate central highland with vegetation and small agricultural zones. There are no major rivers, but the landscape includes valleys, ridges, and narrow coastal plains. Its remote location and dramatic terrain have limited development, while shaping its history as an isolated settlement and place of exile, most notably associated with Napoleon Bonaparte.

What is an ISO Country Code?

ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used worldwide in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.

ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.

Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country’s ISO two-letter code.

ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
