Melanesia is a subregion of Oceania located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, stretching from the eastern edge of Southeast Asia to the central Pacific. It is characterized by large, mountainous islands and rich cultural diversity, with landscapes that include tropical rainforests, volcanic highlands, and extensive coastal ecosystems. The region includes countries such as Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu, as well as the French territory of New Caledonia. Melanesia is one of the four primary subregions of Oceania, alongside Australasia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
