Alderney
Alderney
Also known as: Guernesey (French), Bailliage dé Guernési (Guernésiais), Bailiwick of Guernsey, Bailliage de Guernesey (French), Bailliage dé Guernési (Guernésiais)
Alderney is one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel characterized by rocky coastlines, sandy bays, rolling countryside, and maritime landscapes.
📍 Alderney is one of the Channel Islands and forms part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, a self-governing British Crown Dependency located in the English Channel off the northwest coast of France. Although it is not part of the United Kingdom, Alderney is closely linked to it for defense and international affairs. It lies closer to France than to mainland Britain and is the northernmost of the inhabited Channel Islands.
Alderney’s landscape is known for its rugged cliffs, sandy beaches, and open heathland, giving it a more windswept and natural character than some of the other Channel Islands. The island is relatively small, about 3 miles (5 km) long, and features coastal paths, bird habitats, and historic fortifications. Its mild maritime climate supports a mix of grassland and coastal vegetation, while surrounding waters contribute to its rich marine life.
Historically, Alderney has held strategic importance due to its position in the English Channel, particularly during periods of military conflict, including extensive fortification and occupation during World War II. Culturally, it reflects both British and Norman influences shared across the Channel Islands. Today, Alderney is known for its quiet atmosphere, natural beauty, and historical sites, attracting visitors interested in wildlife, coastal scenery, and heritage.
What is an ISO Country Code?
ISO country codes come from the international standard ISO 3166 created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). These codes are used globally in databases, aviation systems, banking, shipping, and international data systems to uniquely identify countries and territories.ISO 3166-1 codes are the two-letter country codes such as US, FR, or JP. These are called Level-1 ISO codes.
Only ISO 3166-1 codes support flag emojis. Flag emojis are created by combining two Unicode regional indicator letters that match the country's ISO two-letter code.
ISO 3166-2 codes represent states, provinces, or regions. Example: US-AZ = Arizona CA-ON = Ontario Subdivision codes do not have flag emojis.
